ANZAC spirit stronger than ever in Toowoomba
This ANZAC Day, we caught up with RSL Toowoomba Sub Branch to hear how they commemorated this important day on the national calendar, thanks in part to a grant from Inland Rail’s Community Sponsorships and Donations program.

Just a short walk from the Toowoomba Dawn Service, held at Mothers Memorial, the Toowoomba RSL Sub Branch hosted a traditional ANZAC Day gunfire breakfast at the Railway Goods Shed.
ARTC Inland Rail proudly helped support this year’s event by providing a grant contribution through the Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations program.
Scott May, President of the RSL Toowoomba Sub Branch said around 300 people enjoyed a hot breakfast with family and friends while watching other Dawn Services from around the world on two large electronic screens.
“The community had a chance to eat, mingle and relax at the Railway Goods Shed before attending the mid-morning Service,” Mr May said. He added the event included a game of 2up at Toowoomba’s largest ring (30 meters wide), while AFL and NRL enthusiasts watched ANZAC Day games.
“There were Military Vehicles on display from the Military Jeep Owners Club of Queensland, a display from the Oakey Army Aviation Museum, Toowoomba RSL’s very own ‘Flying Pineapple’ car that was driven in the Budget endurance Race and a 1988 Ex-Army Land Rover, ‘Project Perentie’, on display.
“Young people were entertained at the Supervised Activities Corner with ANZAC Day crafts, a snow cone machine, outdoor games, and a jumping castle,” Mr Scott said.
The Community Sponsorships and Donations program offers funding between $1000–$4000 for individuals and organisations in regional areas along the Inland Rail route that contribute to local and regional prosperity, wellbeing and sustainability.
Applications for the current round of funding and close on 31 July 2022.
