Benalla, here’s what you told us about the latest design

We’re grateful to everyone who took time to view the latest Benalla Station Precinct design and Concept Plan, provide their feedback and attend our events.

Between 31 July and 28 August, we had around 200 conversations with the community, stakeholders and local groups about the design to modify the station precinct to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains.

We heard you liked the openness of the design, which improves the connection and visual amenity between Carrier Street and the railway station.

You are pleased we’re reducing the length of the underpass, increasing the number of car parking spaces to 50 and improving accessibility with ramps, stairs and lifts.

You told us disability parking and access from the pick-up and drop-off area on Mackellar Street to the station was important to you, which is why we will continue to explore opportunities to reduce the distance.

You also agreed providing separation between pedestrians and vehicles made sense and would improve safety at the station.

We will continue to refine the design and share this with the community as we take the next steps in building Inland Rail in Benalla.

A construction contractor will be announced in 2024, with construction starting from 2025.
