Work being done

Deliveries of material and equipment to site will start from 18 September 2023 during normal construction hours of 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The work is targeted at realigning the track to facilitate future freight train movements, see map below for site details.

This work will occur during a scheduled ARTC track closure, when trains are not running, to ensure the safety of construction personnel.

Works to be undertaken

  • delivery of ballast
  • installation of ballast
  • track realignment.

Heavy vehicle movements

Before and during the works, heavy vehicle movements will increase from Bribbaree Road, into Wirrup Road and into the rail yard. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to please use caution when driving or walking in the area.

What can I expect?

  • heavy vehicles will commence delivering materials and equipment to site,
  • rail track machinery and construction equipment operating on site during the hours noted above,
  • at times our construction work will create high levels of noise particularly when carrying out activities such as the delivering of equipment and materials to the compound area via trucks,
  • we will undertake high noise impact activities such as rail saws/tamper and regulator during daytime hours,
  • use of non-tonal reversing alarms on all equipment and turning off equipment when not in use,
  • regular maintenance of plant and equipment to reduce emissions,
  • instructing workers to keep noise to a minimum and being respectful of our neighbours.

Machinery used

Equipment used for work includes but is not limited to

  • hand tools,
  • loaders,
  • dump trucks,
  • rail tamping machines,
  • heavy and
  • light vehicles,
  • generators,
  • lighting.

How we’re managing impacts

  • traffic controls will be in place, where required,
  • water carts will be on-site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust,
  • works programmed to best minimise noise impacts – we will aim to minimise noise from the works,
  • unfortunately, some construction activities are inherently noisy which cannot be avoided.

Properties near the construction site can expect to hear:

  • movements of heavy vehicles,
  • loading, unloading or moving equipment and construction
    materials,
  • works will be monitored to ensure compliance with Project Approval Conditions.
