Celebrating NAIDOC week with our Indigenous communities

Inland Rail will be built and operated on the traditional lands of many Indigenous nations, and we value our relationships with the Indigenous communities along the alignment. This month, we joined Boggabilla Central School and Toomelah Public School to celebrate NAIDOC week in honour of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Each year, NAIDOC week is celebrated in Indigenous communities and by Australians from all walks of life.

Inland Rail Indigenous Participation Advisor, Ashley Williams said this year’s theme ‘Heal Country!’ calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.

“We show our respect by actively engaging with Indigenous communities and celebrating Indigenous cultures at a local level,” he said.

“This includes getting involved with NAIDOC week activities.

“It was fantastic to spend some time with the kids at Boggabilla and Toomelah to share knowledge and build strong, lasting relationships.”
