Clontarf Foundation’s ‘super training’ event a hit in Narromine
Inland Rail staff and representatives from one of our construction contractors, Martinus Rail, had the opportunity to participate in a Clontarf Foundation “super training” event in Narromine this month.
Students from Clontarf Academies in Narromine, Dubbo, Wellington and Orange ran through various rugby league skills and drills stations and had the opportunity to meet and interact with special guests, former NRL superstars Steve Menzies and Nathan Hindmarsh.
The Clontarf Foundation supports the education, training and employment of First Nations youth in communities along the Inland Rail alignment.
The Inland Rail Skills Academy is providing $500,000 in funding, over two years, to support 14 Clontarf Academies along the rail corridor in Queensland and New South Wales.
This funding is helping to boost school retention, develop leadership skills and create pathways to employment through training opportunities for First Nations regional youth.
Inland Rail Acting Chief Executive Rebecca Pickering, said a major focus of Inland Rail is building skills in communities right along the project alignment and maximising the potential for local participation in this once-in-a-generation project and others in the future.
“This partnership between the Inland Rail Skills Academy and Clontarf is delivering programs which build skills and prosperity in local communities,” Ms Pickering said.
“Events like this one in Narromine demonstrate how committed we are to play our part in upskilling the nation and ensuring that different groups of people are given the opportunity to help build Inland Rail.”
