Daroobalgie site establishment and construction from 22 January 2024

We plan to undertake site establishment and early construction works at Daroobalgie. Site Establishment work will begin from 22 January 2024, with construction works beginning after its establishment.

Work being done

Site establishment:

  • Deliveries to site including portable buildings and equipment
  • Geotech investigations
  • Environmental control installation
  • Earthworks including clearing and grubbing and topsoil stripping.

Start of construction:

  • Materials delivery
  • Earthworks including clearing and grubbing and topsoil stripping
  • Rail formation earthwork construction
  • Construction of new turnouts and passing loop track/signalling
  • Upgrade to the level crossing including drainage and signalling
  • Installation of new drainage culverts.

Other works will be undertaken as construction progresses and we will inform you of these through regular updates.

What can I expect?

Some works will be noisy. You may hear truck engines and engine noise from machines and unloading/loading activities.

During the works, vehicle movements will be to and from the site. Traffic controllers will be available to direct traffic to and from site where needed.

The compound will be visible from the Newell Highway, Daroobalgie and Hoopers Roads.

Machinery used

Equipment used for the works includes but is not limited to:

  • hand tools including power saws
  • excavators
  • loaders
  • graders
  • rollers
  • truck and dogs
  • backhoes
  • cranes
  • heavy and light vehicles
  • generators
  • lighting towers
  • other minor plant.

Cranes will be used to erect and later demobilize the site sheds.

Heavy and light vehicles will be used to deliver site sheds.

The long-term site activity will include site deliveries of materials, movement of plant and other construction related activity.

How we're managing impacts

  • Use of non-tonal reversing alarms on all equipment and turning off equipment when not in use.
  • Workers using the site compound will keep noise to a minimum and be respectful to neighbours.
  • To reduce visual impacts, site fencing and shadecloth will be placed around the site compound. Materials will be stored in an organised way.
  • Traffic controls will be in place, where
  • Water carts will be on-site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust.
  • Works programmed to best minimise noise impacts. We will aim to minimise noise from the works and monitor noisy activities.
  • Works will be monitored to ensure compliance with Project Approval Conditions.
