Green Street bridge removal signals Inland Rail construction progress

The Green Street bridge in Wangaratta was removed earlier this month signalling another milestone on the Inland Rail project in Victoria.

A crane prepares to lift a beam from a bridge stretching over two railway lines, as workers guide the progress

To allow the safe running of double-stacked freight trains, the Green Street bridge is being replaced and the rail tracks lowered by 2.8 metres.

Our construction partner McConnell Dowell successfully removed 12 sections of the bridge, six on the east side and six on the west side of the central bridge pier.

Averaging about 1.5m wide and 12m long, the sections varied between about 10 and 16 tonnes.
