We recognise the value of a diverse workforce to long-term success and can proudly claim that 44% of the current Inland Rail workforce is female, so it makes sense for us to support the program through both sponsorship and program participation.

The mentoring program runs for six months and is designed to support, guide and retain women employed in the rail industry.

Seven members of the Inland Rail team successfully applied to become part of the 2020 program, with five women involved as mentees, and two of our male staff getting on board as mentors.

Our female participants are at various stages of their careers and are set to benefit from professional and leadership development through their pairing with inspirational mentors from across the rail sector.

Our Inland Rail participants are:

  • Georgia Gosse, Sustainability Manager (mentee)
  • Jacki Casey, Social Media Coordinator (mentee)
  • Kerrin Roberts, Project Manager (mentee)
  • Melissa Maclean, Safety Advisor (mentee)
  • Suzie McLean, Safety Advisor (mentee)
  • Adam Chapple, Head of Human Resources (mentor)
  • Ilan Sagi, Head of Engineering and Value Creation (mentor)

The Gender Diversity Report of the Australasian Rail Workforce, released by the ARA in April 2020, details that in 2018-19 women made up 27% of the rail workforce, which was a 6% improvement on the previous 2016-17 report.
