Inland Rail staff volunteer for NAIDOC week celebrations in Laidley

Covid-19 lockdown may have delayed the original event, but Inland Rail staff weren’t going to miss the opportunity to be part of last month’s Lockyer Valley NAIDOC week celebrations in Laidley.

Inland Rail staff helping out during NAIDOC week

Eight members of the Inland Rail Gowrie to Kagaru team volunteered at the Lockyer Valley NAIDOC week celebrations at the Ferrari Park in Laidley last month.

Our team members helped prepare and serve the elders morning tea and lunch, with the kangaroo and crocodile kebabs standout menu items. Yummo.

We also couldn’t resist exploring the stalls at the event – coming back home with everything from scarves, coffee mugs to organic vegetables.

Our participation in the event was coordinated by Inland Rail’s Queensland Indigenous Participation Advisor Ashley Williams.

It was wonderful opportunity to connect with our Indigenous community, build strong relationships and give back to the community.

In addition to the volunteering effort, Inland Rail also donated $500, which was used to organise the Yuggera dance group performance on the day.
