Inland Rail supports safety of Wangaratta Netball Club players

A new defibrillator with pediatric pads is helping Wangaratta Netball Club prepare for worst case scenarios on the court, thanks to Inland Rail’s Community Sponsorships and Donations program.

Club Treasurer Rodney Dean welcomed the opportunity to purchase an upgraded pack of essential medical supplies to replace an older set the club was finding difficult to maintain.

“Fortunately, we haven’t had to use the defibrillator yet, but we need to be prepared. We were having trouble getting replacement parts for our old one so we’re grateful to be able to use the donation from Inland Rail to assist,” Rodney said.

“These sorts of programs are a great boost to non-profit community groups like our club, particularly now when people just don’t have extra money to donate when they may be finding it hard to work during lockdowns in Victoria.

“We can still get the things we need to operate in a safe way with support from organisations like Inland Rail.”

Rodney encouraged other eligible groups to consider applying for support through the program.

“It’s a very easy process so I recommend other clubs and local organisations have a go to purchase equipment, support a program or any other relevant initiative they might need funding for,” he said.

The normally active club is looking forward to getting back out on the courts once Victoria’s lockdown can be lifted.

“We had to close the night before our juniors were scheduled to play their grand final,” Rodney said.

“We’ll hopefully reschedule that game soon, as well as our Wednesday night competitions, the Net Set Go program, adult club competitions and other events we normally run.”

The current round of Community Sponsorships and Donations close 31 October. See here for more information.
