Inland Rail is a once-in-a-generation project that will complete the backbone of Australia’s freight rail network. It will enhance supply chains by providing a transit time of 24 hours or less for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane. Inland Rail will connect regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits. Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.

About the opportunity

As the Senior Social Performance Advisor, you will lead the implementation of the Inland Rail Social Performance Program, ensuring its integration into every phase of the projects across the Program. By focusing on consistent implementation, you'll help maximise social benefits, such as enhancing local and First Nations employment and industry participation outcomes throughout the delivery of the Inland Rail Program.

Your role will encompass the full spectrum of social performance activities including the priority construction of the projects south of Parkes. You'll identify and deliver Social Performance opportunities, drive continuous improvement, and help maintain consistency across the program for optimal results.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for social performance input across the Inland Rail Program, by contributing to technical advice in the fields of social performance, workforce management, industry participation, housing as well as community health and wellbeing, stakeholder, and community engagement.
  • Provide social performance leadership, technical advice, and support to project teams along the alignment.
  • Ensure social performance considerations and requirements are included in the development of Inland Rail project planning and delivery management strategies, documents, and procedures, particularly as they relate to environmental approvals and contractor management.
  • Work with key stakeholders to help maximise social outcomes related to local and First Nations workforce management and industry participation across the Inland Rail Program in line with current policies and plans.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and external partners, to deliver social performance outcomes, particularly in relation to local and First Nations employment and Industry participation.

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate a combination of interpersonal analytical and strategic skills, as well as being passionate to social impact.

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in the fields of socio-economic development and public stakeholder participation programs as well as relevant project management experience.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of social performance elements for major industry/infrastructure projects in either Qld, NSW, and/or Victoria in both brownfield and greenfield settings.
  • Experience designing, coordinating/managing, and delivering social performance initiatives that have delivered measurable results.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems and be proactive in addressing social concerns.
  • Experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder engagement sessions, and the delivery of effective stakeholder engagement processes as well as an ability to win the support and confidence of internal and external stakeholders, as well as providing sound conflict resolution skills.
  • Working in a team dealing with complex environmental considerations with a high profile in the community, including negotiations with stakeholders on complex social and policy issues.
  • Proven knowledge of emerging trends, key benchmarks, and statutory and regulatory requirements to inform best practice and value management outcomes.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and customised software packages.
    Sound research, analysis, and investigation skills, coupled with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to deliver effective investigation outcomes and reports within specified timeframes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and proven ability to implement Workplace, Health, and Safety (WH&S) practices throughout all aspects of daily work activities.
  • A Class C unrestricted Driver’s License.
