Learn-to-swim teachers receive welcome support at Quandialla Swimming Club

With Summer fast approaching, the Quandialla Swimming Club is bolstering its ranks of learn-to-swim teachers thanks to recent grant funding from the Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations program.

Swimming club members are now receiving Swim Teacher training so they can teach younger children how to swim and prepare for the Quandialla Swimming Club Developmental Carnival to be held in March 2023.

Quandialla Swimming Club volunteer Jodie Vonthien says learning to swim is a vital skill, particularly for regional kids who don’t have easy access to safe, supervised swimming facilities.

“It’s great to give our members the opportunity to give something back to the community and teach the area’s youngsters how to swim safely and confidently in various settings,” Jodie says.

“Our current group of learn-to-swim teachers are really excited about learning the best tips to be effective coaches and we’re very thankful to Inland Rail for their funding donation.”

Senior swim club members Halle West and Laura Vonthien recently completed the Swim Teacher training so they can coach the younger swimmers. Luckily, the Quandialla pool has recently re-opened for the summer, after recent flooding caused local roads to the pool to be closed so swimming lessons can commence.

The Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations program offers funding between $1000–$4000 for organisations in eligible regional areas along the Inland Rail. The funding supports organisations that contribute to local and regional prosperity, wellbeing, and sustainability.
