Milestones reached on bridge works

Inland Rail’s Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 project hit some major milestones in June, with our contractor Trans4m Rail commencing bridge demolition and piling works at Croppa, Tackinbri and Mungle Creeks. Track stripping was also completed between Penneys Road and Tapscott Road.

Croppa Creek rail bridge demolition commences
Demolition of the Croppa Creek rail bridge commenced this month, marking a significant milestone as it is the last major bridge to be demolished by the project team.

Given its historical significance, we are working with the local community to preserve parts of the bridge should locals or businesses be interested in keeping a piece of the bridge as a memento. If you are interested, please get in touch with our team by emailing inlandrailnsw@artc.com.au

New bridge construction underway at Tackinbri and Mungle Creeks
With bridge demolition works at Tackinbri Creek and Mungle Creek due to be complete in July, construction of new bridges is about to start.

The first phase of bridge construction begins with creating a solid foundation to support the structure, known as piling or pile driving.

Piling involves boring into the ground to a maximum level of 3m below ground level, carefully lifting a steel tubular pile above the bore and hammering it into the ground with a machine call a driving hammer.

The piling method chosen for a particular area depends on factors such as soil type and size of the load each pile must bear.

Track stripping – Penneys Road to Tapscott Road
Our crews have completed nearly 30km of track stripping between Penneys Road and Tapscott Road, with more than 55km of rail, and over 45,000 timber, steel and concrete sleepers removed.

Once track stripping is complete, earthworks can commence, removing original ballast and embankments before laying the new track foundation.
