Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 construction update June 2022
With June rain levels lower than forecast, construction crews have made significant progress along all sections of the alignment, including achieving some big construction goals.

June achievements
- All 101 rail culvert creek crossings installed between North Camurra and North Star
- All rail culverts delivered by Humes have arrived at laydown areas
- All piling activities are now complete, with the last pile finished on 24 June 2022
- All nine headstocks installed on Ten Mile Creek Bridge in preparation for bridge beam installation
- Earthworks and the delivery of capping nearing completion between North Camurra and North Star.
Throughout July, between Narrabri and Penneys Road, we will continue to focus on earthworks, level crossing construction and drainage along with constructing the Ten Mile Creek and Bobbiwaa Creek bridges. The 16 bridge beams that will form the deck of the Ten Mile Creek bridge will start being installed in early July after they arrive on site from Rockhampton, Queensland.
From North Camurra to North Star, the teams will continue installing, tamping and destressing new track, constructing level crossings and installing landscaping and fencing.

Narrabri to Penneys Road
- Earthworks, including lime stabilisation
- Culvert installation
- Ten Mile Creek and Bobbiwaa Creek bridge construction, including installation of pre-cast concrete components
- Bellata siding and Penneys Road loop construction
- Level crossing works at Tarlee Road, The Clump Road, Ten Mile Lane, Tremayne Access, Millie Road, Old Newell Highway and Penneys Road.
Penneys Road to South Moree
- Earthworks, including, stabilising and trimming batters
- Ongoing culvert installations
- Ongoing Tycannah loop and siding construction
- Signalling equipment installations at the Tycannah and Waterloo loop and sidings
- Level crossing works at Gurley Settlers Road
- Fencing and landscaping.
North Camurra to North Star
- Signalling equipment installation between I B Bore Road and 1km north of North Star, and between Croppa Moree Road and Buckie Road
- Level crossing works at various locations
- Ballast, sleeper and rail installation between Boonery Park Road and North Star
- Rail tamping and destressing
- Fencing and landscaping.
