New kiln donation has Coonamble artists firing again

Earlier this year, the Coonamble Arts Alive group’s trusty old kiln passed its use by date, leaving its band of passionate artists unable to put that final, rewarding finishing touch on their ceramics projects.

Coonamble Arts Alive member Mrs Anna Kennedy said the ceramics group has been a sanctuary and important social space for Coonamble locals for more than a decade and purchasing a new kiln has inspired more people to join in.

“The community has always supported our ceramics group and has been instrumental in our growth.

“Since 2011, we have secured a working studio (the Talent Scouts Art Studio) and have been offering classes and workshops to more than 500 members and guests.

“Our shared passion for ceramics has been vital for the wellbeing of many in the Coonamble community who have been doing it tough during the recent drought.

“When our kiln packed it in, we were at a loss. Since the new kiln has been installed, makers have been returning to the hall to produce and community wellbeing is supported,” Mrs Kennedy said.

Since 2019, our Community Sponsorships and Donations program has benefitted regional communities in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria with grants worth more than $666,000 awarded to successful applicants.

The program offers funding between $1,000 and $4,000 for individuals and organisations in regional areas along the route that contribute to local and regional prosperity, wellbeing, and sustainability.
