The Lockhart Lions Club team are keen to hit print on their newsletters

As natural disasters make it harder for regional communities to stay in touch with each other, the Lions Club of Lockhart is now telling more people about its latest ventures, thanks to grant funding from ARTC Inland Rail’s Community Sponsorship and Donations program.

The Lockhart branch used their grant recently to purchase a new printer so they can continue to publish the area’s community newsletter, The Verandah Post.

Lions Club of Lockhart Treasurer, Shirley Morgan says it’s vital during these uncertain times that community service efforts of volunteer organisations, like Lions Club, are visible in the community.

“We would like to thank Inland Rail for the grant funding because it means we can now tell more people in our communities about our projects and share how our volunteers are improving the lives of locals,” Shirley says.

“Lions Club exists to serve our community and to build a better tomorrow for all our citizens by assisting in areas of need, such as floods, fire, health research and local education.

“This grant from ARTC Inland Rail will be very helpful in assisting us to reach our current goals.

Andrew Garratt, Inland Rail Stakeholder Engagement Manager Albury to Parkes, says Inland Rail’s Community Sponsorships and Donations program is one example of how we’re ensuring communities benefit from this nation-building project and helping to leave positive legacies along the Inland Rail alignment.

“We are proud to give back to the communities that are home to Inland Rail. The work local schools and organisations do is instrumental to the wellbeing of regional communities,” Andrew says.

The Community Sponsorships and Donations program offers funding between $1000–$4000 for groups and organisations that operate along the Inland Rail route and contribute to local and regional prosperity, well-being, and sustainability. These funds will directly benefit the community through supporting vital local initiatives.”

Since 2019, the Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations program has donated close to $1 million in grant funding to more than 290 community groups along the alignment.
