North Narrabri to Penneys Road Major track upgrade works
From 1 April 2022, our contractor Trans4m Rail will conduct major track construction works within the existing rail corridor between North Narrabri and Penneys Road, Bellata.
Work being done
Low impact activities associated with the works, such as machinery re-fueling, managing environmental controls and traffic control may occur outside of these hours.
Rail operations will recommence on the upgraded track on 1 November 2022.
Works will involve:
- Replacing existing sleepers and track with concrete sleepers and new steel tracks
- Earthworks and lime stabilisation
- Rail bridge demolition and replacement
- Replacing and upgrading drainage (including culverts) and level crossings
- Upgrading signaling and communications equipment
- Access gate and road construction
- Installing signage, fencing, services and utilities within the rail corridor
- Surveying.
What can I expect
- Trucks and other vehicles will enter and exit the construction site via access gates along the alignment
- Changed traffic conditions will be in place at level crossings
- Construction machinery and equipment operating on site
- Delivery of materials and equipment
- Motorists should follow traffic controls and drive with caution.

- scrapers,
- excavators,
- loaders,
- dozers,
- stabilizers,
- posi-tracks,
- compactors,
- rollers and
- water / vacuum excavation trucks will be used within the construction area.
How we’re managing impacts
- Traffic control will be in place, where required and
- water carts will be on site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust.
