Nyanda tour creates greater awareness of indigenous culture

Our project team recently participated in an immersive cultural tour at the Nudgee waterhole facility, led by Yagara traditional owners.

Nyanda tour creates greater awareness of indigenous culture

The team participated in smoking, fire-making, and Welcome to Country ceremonies and also tasted seasonal bush foods from the Nardah Nudgee Waterhole Reserve.

The group also explored witchetty grub habitats, learnt how the native black bean was processed into bread and participated in ochre marking initiations.

A major highlight was listening to the bull-roarer at the scared Bora Ring.

Calvert to Kagaru Project Manager Long Vo believes his team will benefit from the experience.

“This tour was a great opportunity to discuss the history of our first peoples, be more aware of our environment and make more conscious decisions about protecting our environment
going forward.”
