October 2020 project update for Albury to Illabo

Inland Rail has appointed engineering consultancy WSP Australia to deliver the reference design and accompanying primary approvals documentation for the Albury to Illabo project.

The project has been classified State Significant Infrastructure by the NSW Government and as such has commenced an Environmental Impact Statement approvals pathway. WSP Australia’s appointment is an important step in refining the project’s reference design of the project.

A range of site investigations will be delivered including ecological and geotechnical surveying, as well as scrutiny of impacts on cultural heritage, noise, air quality and utilities.

In addition, we will be conducting a Multi Criteria Analysis in coming months to help determine suitable options at major project sites along the alignment. We will use previously captured data and, where necessary, engage directly impacted stakeholders for feedback.

Early next year we will share a draft reference design and seek community feedback.
