Partnering with TAFE to create opportunities

Inland Rail is committed to leaving a positive legacy for communities along the alignment by creating opportunities for education, training and employment. By working with education providers, not-for-profit organisations and local businesses, we’re learning more about current needs and capabilities, and creating programs for growth and development.

One of our key partners in the Northern NSW region is TAFE NSW, who link us to industry and workforce and help us deliver training programs to those wanting a future in construction.

We were recently invited to attend an industry event hosted by TAFE Moree at the Moree Town and Country Club. The session connected Inland Rail representatives with the Moree business community, community training providers, housing providers, councillors, council staff and Moree LALC.

Inland Rail’s Social Performance Principal Jody Meir and Senior Project Manager Adam Barber provided updates on the Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 and 2 projects, giving attendees first had exposure to potential opportunities.

Meanwhile, TAFE Boggabilla has been working with the Inland Rail Skills Academy to develop a customised fundamentals program for students wanting to upskill in preparation for employment opportunities with lnland Rail’s contractors.

The program will be delivered from TAFE Boggabilla from 15 May and will cover topics like career preparation, railway industry safety induction and Certificate II in Construction. Candidates who successfully finish the program will have the opportunity to secure an interview with Inland Rail’s construction contractors.

To find out more about the TAFE Boggabilla program call 07 4671 9900.
