Setting up our shops bolsters local economies across North East Victoria

ARTC has spent more than $30,000 with local businesses across North East Victoria in the last six months, as our project team expands its presence in local communities.

Whether it’s ordering printing, catering, renting shopfront space, hiring venues for information sessions or purchasing goods and services, we’re proud to be supporting local communities.

We’re also continuing to hold valuable conversations with residents and other stakeholders across impacted communities.

So far in 2021, we’ve held 16 sessions and had more than 480 conversations across Mitchell Shire at locations including Broadford’s Living and Learning Centre and outdoors on Power Street, in Wandong, and at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

Further up in North East Victoria, we’ve chatted to more than 200 locals at our shops on Binney Street, Euroa and Nunn Street, Benalla, at a marquee in Glenrowan’s Lion’s Park and in a kiosk on Murray Street in Wangaratta.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager Samantha Smith said establishing long-term drop-in locations along the Inland Rail alignment has been invaluable for keeping engaged with impacted communities.

“We’ve enjoyed chatting with locals about a range of topics including our Urban Design Framework, Planning Scheme Amendment, design ideas, land access, noise and vibration, construction impacts, accessibility and so much more,” Samantha said.

“Community feedback is essential in our planning and design stages for Inland Rail to ensure we deliver an outcome the community can be proud of.

“We know there’s work to be done to figure out a range of elements including design options for Benalla and Euroa, bridge gradients in Broadford and elevating heritage values in Glenrowan. We’re committed to keeping these conversations going to factor in views from a wide range of stakeholders.”

Our next rounds of engagement will include for heritage permits in Glenrowan and Wangaratta, and later seeking feedback on our Environment Report.
