Stockinbingal to Parkes project update March 2021

In early March, we hosted two community information sessions to share our progress on the detailed designs for lowering the track at Wyndham Avenue Bridge and constructing the crossing loop at Daroobalgie.

Explaining the preferred detailed design for the Daroobalgie crossing loop

The Daroobalgie crossing loop is being constructed to enable the safe passing of double-stacked freight trains. The preferred design features 2.2km of new track built to the eastern side of the existing track and upgrades to three existing culverts.

As part of building the crossing loop ARTC will upgrade the level crossing at Daroobalgie. A risk assessment has determined the level crossing will be upgraded to active with boom gates, bells, and lights.

The design for Wyndham Avenue Bridge will see work along 500m of existing rail track consisting of track lowering by a maximum depth of 1.5m under the existing bridge.

Work will continue to finalise these designs and we expect construction to commence in early 2022.

Meanwhile, following community consultation in December 2020, we have determined the preferred designs to achieve the necessary horizontal clearances at seven sites located between Forbes and Stockinbingal. We are also nearing the preferred solution to modify the existing Lachlan River rail bridge,

In late April, we will share these updated design proposals with the community and provide an update on the necessary modifications for the two existing water tanks at Quandialla and Milvale. Keep an eye out for information around the sessions coming soon.
