Level crossing and track maintenance (out-of-hours works), Daroobalgie, March

Inland Rail will undertake level crossing upgrade and track maintenance at Daroobalgie Road, Daroobalgie, during a statewide track possession. Works, including the closure of the level crossing, will start from 12am, Wednesday 6 March to 12am, Thursday 14 March 2024. These works may be continuous, including night work during this period.

Most of the works will occur during a scheduled ARTC track closure, when trains are not running. This is to ensure the safety of construction personnel.

Traffic will be detoured at this time as the level crossing at Daroobalgie Road will be temporarily closed.

What can I expect?

  • Traffic detours – see map (below) for full detour information.
  • Heavy vehicle movements:
    • Before and during the works, heavy vehicle movements may increase from the Newell Highway, north and south, into Daroobalgie Road.
    • Motorists and pedestrians are asked to please use caution when driving or walking in the area.
    • Traffic controllers will be available to direct traffic where needed.
  • Rail track machinery and equipment are operating on-site during the hours noted above.
  • Some of these works will be noisy. You may hear truck engines and engine noise from machines.
  • Lights may be used but will be directed away from residences.
  • We will undertake high noise impact activities such as rail saws/tamper and regulator during daytime hours.
  • Some of these works will be noisy. You may hear noise from the piling rig, truck engines and other noise from machines.
  • Unfortunately, some activities are inherently noisy, which cannot be avoided. Properties near the site can expect to hear:
    • excavation (activity involving the removal of existing surfaces such as rock, soil, pavement, and other substances from a site to form an open face, hole or cavity)
    • movements of heavy vehicles
    • loading, unloading or moving equipment and materials.

Machinery used

Equipment used for work includes but is not limited to hand tools including power saws, excavators, loaders, dump trucks, rollers, crane rail tamping machines, heavy and light vehicles, oxy welder, generators, lighting.

How we’re managing impacts

  • Traffic controls will be in place to assist residents access their properties during the road closure.
  • Water carts will be on-site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust.
  • Works programmed to best minimise noise impacts. We will aim to minimise noise from the works.
  • Respite periods during blocks of works generating high noise. Blocks no more than 3 hours with an hour respite between blocks.
  • Use of non-tonal reversing alarms on all equipment and turning off equipment when not in use.
  • Regular maintenance of plant and equipment to reduce emissions.
  • Instructing workers to keep noise to a minimum and being respectful of our neighbours.
  • Works will be monitored to ensure compliance with Project Approval Conditions.

Detour information

Residents east of the level crossing will enter and exit Daroobalgie Road via the Newell Highway only.

Residents west of the level crossing, including those accessing Hoopers Road and Mumbidgle Road, will enter and exit Daroobalgie Road via Calarie Road. Traffic control and signage will be in place to assist motorists.

There will be no access across the level crossing during the closure.
