Inland Rail will continue construction in and around Wangaratta Railway Station and Green Street bridge during March.

Work being done

Green Street bridge works will involve the demolition of the central pier and start of piling works for the new bridge abutment.

Station works include installation of drainage, ongoing construction of the western platform, excavation of the western stairs near the underpass, removal of fencing and signal gantries near the eastern track ‘Dive’ and track formation works throughout the precinct.

North East Water works near Docker Street will continue in early March.

Most of the works will be within or near the Green Street bridge and station precinct, with minimal impact to road users.

Access to the station building will be maintained.

Round-the-clock works will also be undertaken during a track possession between 12am Thursday 7 March and 6pm Wednesday 13 March. See separate notification for full details.

What can I expect?

  • Construction work 7am-7pm Monday to Friday and 7am-7pm weekends
  • Extended working hours 6am-6pm Monday 4 March
  • Noise from construction machinery and equipmentoperating onsite
  • Trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the work site
  • Ground excavations in various locations
  • Approved vegetation removal within the project area
  • Changes to pedestrian access via the Docker Street footbridge are in place.

Machinery used

Heavy and light vehicles including trucks, cranes, dump trucks, loaders, excavators, track tampers and rollers will be used within the work areas.

How we’re managing impacts

Traffic management will be in place to ensure safe access for all road users and pedestrians, where required

Reducing vehicles required onsite and construction traffic near the station to avoid impacting replacement buses and passenger parking

Environmental controls in place including live monitoring of noise, dust and vibration
