Inland Rail supports repairs to Kilmore Guide and Scout Hall

Repairs to the Kilmore Guide and Scout Hall will go ahead after receiving funds from the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations program.

The 32-year-old hall hosts meetings for Girl Guides and Scouts on a weekly basis and the Inland Rail support will be used to fix the leaking roof, replace the worn vinyl kitchen and hall floors with a new non-slip surface and fix a water leak.

Since 1970, the Kilmore Girl Guides have been empowering girls and young women to grow into confident, self-respecting, and responsible community members.

Carolyn Atkinson, Kilmore Girl Guides Leader, said:

‘We’re guiding our young people to not only become good community members, but to contribute and become leaders.

“Our programs promote citizenship, volunteerism, self-awareness, and self-reliance.

‘With a safer and more comfortable hall we will attract more members and increase the sustainability of our membership.’

Ed Walker, ARTC Victoria and South Australia Projects General Manager, said:

‘We are proud to give back to the communities that are home to Inland Rail. The work these organisations do is instrumental to the wellbeing of regional communities.

‘The latest round of funding takes overall support for local communities and associations along the Inland Rail alignment to nearly $1.1 million since the program launched in 2019.

‘I encourage other non-profit groups to lodge their applications for the next round of funding which is open until Monday 31 July 2023.’

The Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations program offers funding between $1000 and $4000 for individuals and organisations in regional areas along the Inland Rail alignment. The funding supports organisations or individuals that contribute to local and regional prosperity, wellbeing, and sustainability.
