Narrabri to North Star Phase 2 community engagement update
Since our last update in May, we’ve continued to engage with community representatives while our environmental approvals team progressed key studies and reports. We held our first Community Reference Group meeting in June and in July members of our Stakeholder Engagement team attended the NSW Farmers’ Association’s Annual Conference.

Attendance at the NSW Farmers Association Conference
In July, members of the Inland Rail NSW Stakeholder Engagement team including Head of Stakeholder Relations Naomi Tonscheck attended the NSW Farmers’ Association Annual Conference. The three-day event provided many opportunities for the team to discuss the latest project developments with attendees.
The NSW Farmers’ Association and Inland Rail have already worked together to develop an information pack for NSW property owners, which addresses how Inland Rail is dealing with fencing standards, property acquisitions, land access requirements, and complaints management processes.
As a result of the positive collaboration between the two parties, the Association voted to dissolve the Inland Rail Taskforce.
Community Reference Group meets for the first time
On 21 June, the Narrabri to North Star Phase 2 Community Reference Group (CRG) held its first meeting in Moree. The CRG’s role is to inform development of the project as we transition through the Environmental Impact Statement approvals phase and into construction.
Led by experienced Chairperson Mr Mike Silver, OAM the group was provided with an introduction to the project, an update on environmental approvals and a broad overview of upcoming noise mitigation consultation.

Preparing for operational noise impact engagement
In February next year, our Stakeholder Engagement team will be consulting about potential noise mitigation measures for residents in Moree bounded by the Gwydir Highway, Newell Highway, Oak Street and River Street.
The consultation will involve direct and targeted communications with all identified stakeholders and seek to understand their views and preferences on the different noise mitigation options available to them. These may include noise barriers and at-property noise mitigation.
The results of the engagement will be used to prepare a report justifying the selected noise mitigation measures and demonstrating how community preferences for noise mitigation have informed the preferred solutions.
