Narrabri to North Star Phase 2 Project Update – March 2024

In the last two months, we have been consulting with residents near the rail line in Moree, north of Alice Street, about potential impacts from noise once Inland Rail becomes operational.

Kicking off with a community BBQ on February 10, the project team presented residents a variety of materials explaining and illustrating noise levels, impacts, and the features of potential mitigation options.

The project team used group sessions and individual briefings to also outline how community views collected during the consultation, along with technical expertise, would inform recommendations for preferred noise mitigation measures.

Residents were also invited to complete a survey to provide feedback on the consultation process and their mitigation preferences.

A report containing consultation outcomes and noise assessment data will be submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure as part of the environmental assessment process and will be made public.

Preferred noise mitigation measures may be refined during the Operational Noise and Vibration Review (ONVR) which would be completed during the Phase 2 detailed design stage, pending environmental approval.

A reminder to everyone that the Narrabri to North Star Phase 2 Community Reference Group (CRG) is active and available to provide information to Moree residents. CRG members can also take questions to Inland Rail and represent community views in their role as community advocates. Please don’t hesitate to contact the CRG through the CRG Chair Mr Mike Silver at NS2Binlandrailccc@bigpond.com.
